About the breed
Braque d'Auvergne called as well Auvergne Pointing Dog or Auvergne Pointer.

The origin
of that breed still is the point at issue. One are claiming that it came to
France in the Middle Ages with Crusaders, other are saying braque were imported
in the end of 18th century by knights of Maltese Order. It is also possible
that it is an old French breed created by cross-breeding the other French
breeds.
The only thing which is known for sure is that the breed has strongly settled
features of trait and exterior, and the nomenclature of the breed is bound
with one of French district, where the first breeders were coming from.
Two world wars and intensely aroused interest of pointers almost brought down
this age-old breed. Under the wire breed was saved from the extinction and
since years is kept on stable level, but still it is very fragile balance.
Hopefully, there is a chance that breeders will groove on Braque, also because
its bigger and frequent successes in Field Trials competitions.
Braque d'Auvergne is known as dog for woodcocks, it is also specialist in
hunting for partridges. Like other pointing dogs is working also after shot.
Strong, big-boned, but not sluggish, he is active, resistant and exceptionally
durable dog, being marked by the perfect smell. His physical "clumsiness"
is masked with the elegant apparel which is giving noble and light appearance
to him.

Behaviour
His obedience and returning the guide make work with him exceptionally light
provided that we will concentrate on developing inborn predispositions of
the dog and its suitable directing, refraining from every brutal methods of
the traditional training at the same time.
The guide being marked by excessive impatience and austerity is able to suppress
the inborn passion of this breed and fail dog's trust in his owner.
Braque d'Auvergne is very cordial, intelligent, gentle and tied to his family
very much, is also the perfect companion of hunts, children's friend and the
noninconvenient household member.
Currently there is no mass breeding of French pointing dogs. The whole population
is located in hands of keen amateurs who are trying with the passion and the
concern to foster the character and the hunting passion of this wonderful
breed.
